About Nepal
By the north-eastern sector of the world lies the world’s largest and most populated continent: Asia. With 48 countries and a diverse range of climates and geographic features, many believe this continent to be the origin of which civilization had started. Of these countries, one landlocked country, with India to the south and China to the north, has three main geographic regions. This is Nepal. The Himalayan Region is located to its north. It is home to the world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest. The Mountain Region lies just south, accounting for about 64% of the total land area of the country. At its lowest point is the Terai Region, accounting for about 17% of the total land area and where most of Nepal’s population is located. With a population of about 26 million people, Nepal is home to many multi-ethnic peoples. The main language spoken is Nepali. The capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, located in the Hills Region, is highly populated and is a major tourism area. Agriculture in Nepal is essential to the economy, with about 68% of the population employed in the sector and accounting for approximately 34% of the annual GDP. Even so, most of Nepal is suffering from food insecurity. The introduction of hazelnuts to Nepal is one method to enhance food security.
